Gandhi Sells Out, Sells Drinks
February 16, 2002
BROOKE GLADSTONE: If bar leaning is the marketing technique of the future, we wonder if it has caught the attention of CMG Worldwide, the Indianapolis-based licensing firm. CMG has just been entrusted by the Estate of Mahatma Gandhi to protect and market his image. Mahatma Gandhi moved an entire nation into peaceful revolution. The question is -- can he move merchandise? [AMBIENT SOUND MARKET]
MAN: Pardon me, young woman. I would be most honored if you would permit me to lean across you in order to reach my non-alcoholic cocktail.
WOMAN: No problem. [SOUND OF DRINK SPILLING] Oh!
MAN: I'm sorry. I appear to have spilled my Raj Mataj on your dress!
WOMAN: Raj Mataj?
MAN: Yes, a delightful and surprising concoction of Darjeeling tea and YooHoo brand chocolate-flavored drink. I find it to be Indi-licious. May I say you have supple skin?
MAN: Hey Courtney -- is this skinny dude botherin' you? Hey buddy -- don't make me teach you a lesson.
MAN: You can torture me; you can beat me; but you can't beat the flavor of a Raj Mataj cocktail! [MUSIC]
