The Norwegian sextet Kaizers Orchestra builds cathartic rock songs that draw on Tin Pan Alley and Eastern European folk music. They play on Oct. 10 at Town Hall. 

Cuban-Chinese composer and cellist combines ambient cello, sound design, and poetic storytelling on "Dark Therapy". The immersive work premieres at National Sawdust on Oct. 10.

Estonian “neo-zombie-post-folk” music duo Puuluup puts  talharpa (a traditional string instrument) through effect blocks and loopers when they play at DROM on Oct. 8.

William Kentridge’s multimedia theater piece Waiting for the Sibyl, scored by Nhlanhla Mahlangu and Kyle Shepherd opens Oct. 9 at Powerhouse Arts and runs through Sat., Oct. 11. 

Las Áñez is a duo of twin sisters from Bogotá who compose original songs deeply-rooted in Colombian folk music. They perform on Oct. 3 at Americas Society and at Terraza 7 on Oct. 4. 

JJJJJerome Ellis' work features soundscapes that explore relationships among blackness, disabled speech, divinity, nature, sound, and time. He performs at Roulette on Oct. 3.

Pianist Robert Glasper takes over the Blue Note here in New York to present the annual smorgasbord of music that he calls Robtober. Glasper's residency runs until Nov. 2.

Argentinian producer Chancha via Circuito makes cumbia-inspired electronic music with environmental sounds and South American folkloric traditions. He plays on Sept. 30 at Xanadu.  

Rumbo Tumba is the project of the Argentine musician Facundo Salgado, who uses a looping station to record and mix traditional wooden instruments in real time. He plays in-studio.
