Title: Are You Hiring for a Cool Job? [music]
Brian Lehrer: Brian Lehrer on WNYC. We're going to end today's show with a little public service for Brian Lehrer Show listeners. We'll call it The Brian Lehrer Show Job Board. It's no secret that the job market is tough. If you're looking for a little extra cash or really employment, we thought we'd try to help out. Here's what we're inviting you to do right now on the phones. If you're an employer, are you hiring? What's the job? Shout it out here. 212-433-WNYC.
If you recently got a job, especially if it's maybe out of the box, like the job that others may not think to look for, what's that job? Give other listeners that tip. If you think there are other openings or if you just know anyone with a job to fill or who recently got one, where there may be more opportunity or in a category that people may not realize exists, shout out those, too. 212-433-WNYC, 212-433-9692. Call or text. This can also be a side hustle, not necessarily a full-time job.
We want to cast this net for tips for people who need either a real job or just to make some extra money very widely. It could also be a side hustle that people may not have thought of that could be available to them on whatever you call with. You could say a little bit about what the pay might be, where it is, how people can apply, or just shout out a category. 212-433-WNYC for this little 10-minute Brian Lehrer Show Job Board of the AIR. 212-433-9692. Call or text.
A lot of these kinds of jobs in small businesses tend to get filled informally, which is one of the reasons why we're doing this. Maybe you're not going to find a job as a line cook on LinkedIn, or if the help-wanted sign in your window isn't bringing in applicants, or you've been seeing a help-wanted sign in a window in your neighborhood, and you want to let other people know about that or your posters on neighborhood lampposts didn't survive Saturday's rain, why not try filling that open position or telling people about it with a fellow Brian Lehrer Show listener call for the sake of other, Brian Lehrer Show listeners.
Are you looking for a barista at your coffee shop or an apprentice in your workshop? Maybe your nonprofit is hiring an organizer or a fundraiser. Maybe here in late April, you're hiring for summer help. Are you looking for camp counselors, lifeguards, restaurant staff, ice cream scoopers? Finally, for those of you who are not hiring, do you have any advice for the job seekers out there? Maybe you got your own job in an unusual way. Is there a secret job bulletin board out there, or a place you know is hiring? Did you recently land an interesting job yourself? What are some job categories that are actually hiring during this slowdown?
Tell everybody what you might know or think you know about where people can look for work, full-time, part-time side hustles. It's The Brian Lehrer Show Job Board for the next few minutes. 212-433-WNYC, 212-433-9692, call or text. We'll take them right after this.
