Lauren Purcell-Joiner

Lauren Purcell-Joiner is the Producer of Classical Music Happy Hour, a podcast from WQXR and Carnegie Hall about finding joy in Classical music. She also produces live broadcasts for WQXR including Carnegie Hall Live and the summer orchestral series from the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. 


Previously, Lauren was the producer for The NY Phil Story: Made in New York, a co-production of WQXR and the New York Philharmonic. Lauren has produced weekly shows like New York in Concert and radio specials like New York in Concert with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and Rita Dove, We Shall All Be Changed: Musical Reflections on 9/11 and Strike Up the Band! A Century of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. She got her start in radio as a producer and host of a show featuring soul, gospel, and R&B music of the 50’s-70’s at KLCC in Eugene, OR. Lauren graduated with a PhD from the University of Oregon where she studied musicology and ethnomusicology.
